The northernmost town in Waldo County, Burnham is located approximately 15 miles northeast of Waterville. Though under 1,000 population, Burnham contains within its village the Sebasticook River, the Springfield Terminal main line (freight only), and the northern terminus of the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railway. A portion of Lake Winnecook (Unity Pond) is also located within the town's 39 square mile extent. A considerable proportion of the town is forested or wetland.
