Canaan is a rapidly-growing (3 percent per year) suburban town sandwiched between Skowhegan and Pittsfield in eastern Somerset County. U.S. 2 runs east-west through the town and its commercial village area. Sibley Pond, on the eastern border, has several hundred summer homes, and Lake George, to the west, serves a regional park. The 41 square miles encompasses a mix of flat land and steep hills.
