Maine's smallest city, Hallowell covers just 6 square miles and has a population of about 2,500. Most of Hallowell is an older urban area, with a commercial center located on U.S. 201. Portions of western Hallowell are developing suburbs. The City of Augusta forms the northern boundary of Hallowell, and the Kennebec River the eastern.
