The Town of Monmouth is located in the southwestern corner of Kennebec County, about halfway between Augusta and Lewiston. With population growth at nearly 2 percent per year, Monmouth's 34 square miles include all or portions of Cobbosseecontee Lake, Annabessacook Lake, Sand Pond, Cochnewagon Lake, and Wilson Pond. About 1/5 of its housing is seasonal. Major settlement areas include Monmouth Village, a mid-sized commercial village, and North Monmouth. U.S. 202 runs through the town, as does the "Back Road" of the Springfield Terminal.
