Ripley is a sparsely-populated agricultural community, with a population of under 500 and extent of 25 square miles. It is located on the eastern edge of Somerset County, 28 miles northeast of Skowhegan and just west of Dexter. Its land is largely open fields and the primary feature in town is Ripley Pond. About 1/3 of the housing is seasonal. Ripley village has no commercial development and the town has no primary transportation corridors.
